BBI Course Descriptions

bbi20091

BRETHREN LIFE AND THOUGHT - The course will acquaint students with the history of the Church of the Brethren from the early 1700s down to the present day. Essential themes of Brethren beliefs and practices will be highlighted.

HOW THE BIBLE CAME TO US - Join us on an exciting study into some of the personalities that shaped the Bible. We will look at some of the sacrifices, the story of the Bible in English and a man named William Tyndale. Our goal is to increase your love for your Bible. Questions/comments are welcome.

THE EPISTLES OF 1, 2, & 3 JOHN AND JUDE - The study of these epistles will give us encouragement and insight in our walk with the Lord. Topics discussed will include light, love, truth, fellowship, hospitality, assurance of salvation and false teaching. These epistles are hidden gems, which are often overlooked but offer great applications for the Christian today!

OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY - This course will be a general introduction to the Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures). Attention will be given to the content, outline and general theme of each Old Testament book. Theological implications of each book will also be considered.

AD 30: THE WORLD OF JESUS - Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum, Jerusalem, Pontius Pilate the governor, Herod Antipas the tetrarch, Annas and Caiaphas the High Priests. The people and places that cross the pages of the Gospels and filled 1st century Palestine will be our focus as we attempt to bring new light to the world that Jesus walked.

TEACHING AND LEARNING IN THE CHURCHThe eternal truths of God’s Word must be continually taught and learned. This course will deal with practical principles, methods, and means for effectively teaching and profitably applying the Bible to daily living.

THE BOOK OF 2 SAMUEL - Today the book would be titled “The Memoirs of King David.” Although he was called a “man after God’s own heart,” David was not immune to the harsh realities of tragedy and triumph. He ascended to the throne with a divided kingdom, sought to unite it, and gained the respect of neighboring national leaders. Discover how God rewards those who seek His will in every circumstance in life.

THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT - Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send believers the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Godhead Trinity. That promise was fulfilled at Pentecost and the Holy Spirit is available to us. We will look at who He is and what He does for us before and after salvation. We will also look at exploring the spiritual gifts and the fruit of the Spirit.

REGISTRATION MUST BE RECEIVED AT THE ADDRESS BELOW BY JUNE 22, 2009.
