BNTC -- The Epistles of John

BNTC -- The Epistles of John

by Harold S. Martin.  148 pp., clothbound.

The letters known as the Epistles of John were all written at about the same time during a later period in John's life. John had been an early follower of Jesus, a disciple of the Lord already during the days of John the Baptist. John was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee, along with his father and his brother. There was a headstrong element in his character, but association with Jesus brought a change in his temperament so that he became a serene and loving man.

John's Gospel was written so that people might be saved (John 20:30-31). John's First Epistle was written that believers may know that they are saved (1 John 5:13). The two short epistles of John deal primarily with visits of itinerant preachers, and the land of treatment they are to be given. In Second John we are told not to extend hospitality to false teachers. In Third John Gaius is commended for the hospitality which he did show to teachers of the truth.

John's letters read like notes of love and concern from an elderly saint who writes from long years of experience.
