Glimpses of the Past: A Study of Brethren Heritage (Youth Edition)
Glimpses of the Past: A Study of Brethren Heritage (Youth Edition)
By Harold S. Martin & Esther Joy Ramer
History should be of interest to every young person. Some who study this book will have grown up in the Church of the Brethren. Others may have been introduced to the Brethren by friends. The beliefs and practices of the Brethren have a clear New Testament basis, and it is of great value to be grounded in those truths. The book Glimpses of the Past: A Study of Brethren Heritage (Youth Edition) is an attempt to combine the history and beliefs of the Brethren in a very simple and a readable format. The study is designed for younger persons who are in the intermediate and junior high grades. The youth edition of Glimpses of the Past (an adult edition is available)—is not intended to be a comprehensive history of the Church of the Brethren. Each of the thirteen lessons in the book is concluded with a brief Bible study and some activities that are related to the material in the preceding pages. The picture on the front cover shows the tombstones which mark the burial sites of Alexander Mack and his wife, Elizabeth. Mack is considered to have been the first minister among the Brethren. The cemetery is located in back of the Germantown, Pennsylvania meeting house, the place where the first Brethren settled in America.
