LETTERS FROM READERSCompiled by Harold Martin From Kansas: Thanks for your "witness" both in person and in
writing. Our Sunday night Bible study has just finished a much too short
study of Revelation. One of the participants got upset with the "gory details"
and so we are going to drop the study. I am enclosing $100 for the continued
publishing and sending the BRF Witness. We appreciate your stand on the homosexual issue. From Illinois: I was full of joy after reading the March/April edition of the BRF Witness on "New Testament Baptism." If it is possible to get more copies, I would like to know how to order them. If I cannot get more copies, I would like permission to photocopy. From Michigan: We are Brethren church members here in Michigan
and are planning a trip to the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania in July.
Are there things related to Brethren heritage that you would recommend
that we see or visit on our trip? We appreciate so much your witness, especially during
these challenging times for our denomination. Please add our name to your
mailing list for the BRF Witness (including a copy of the most recent issue). God bless your excellent ministry. When I have read and re-read the issues of the BRF
Witness I pass them on where I know that others will be blessed from the
writings. The article called "Some Hindrances to Answered Prayer" was a
good message. I am in full accord with what BRF is doing, but
the church here in western Washington is almost extinct. There is scarcely
enough money to pay the church light bill. The leadership here has lost
their moorings—ordaining women and thinking of ordaining homosexuals. I
have transferred my letter to the Swedish Baptist church, and the ministry
in the church here is rock-solid gospel. Our church is growing by leaps
and bounds. May God bless for what you are trying to accomplish in the
Church of the Brethren. I have left the Church of the Brethren due to some
issues in our district that keep coming up—issues which I just cannot
support. This has been a great sorrow to me. I now attend the Evangelical
Free church. Your BRF Witness is filled with excellent teaching.
I will never forget the help you have been in my life and the times I got
to hear Harold Martin and James Myer speak. You will remain in my heart. I am astonished that you are still affiliated with the
Church of the Brethren. Are you mellowing, and therefore you keep
playing with the devil? There is no improvement in Elgin; in fact, things
are getting worse. It is the doer of the Word that is right with God.
[Note: We print this letter to show that some do not believe BRF
is conservative enough.] I have been receiving the BRF paper for many years, but I am asking that you remove my name from the mailing list. I could not believe the anti-American spirit that was in your paper recently. I believe that we are in a time when the church needs to pray, and help our nation. There are a lot of things I don't agree with in our nation, but I'm so thankful that God can still bless America. From Wisconsin: Is there any possibility that someone you know would come this far north to pastor the church here? I know you have a Bible School, but suppose there is a shortage of pastors all over. From Indiana: I really appreciated the Witness on Litigation in a recent issue of the BRF Witness. My business experience in having my own Real Estate business for more than 40 years is such that the article was of much interest to me. EXCERPTS FROM E-MAILS IN 2003 TO BRF
From Indiana: It is good to know how Brethren men and women of the Church of the Brethren truly desire to know God's Holy Word. I must admit if this publication wasn't published there be little hope for those who are seeking a deeper life in Christ Jesus. The Church must come back to the principles of God's Word, and live it. From Indiana: I have read your recent BRF Witness on baptism, and thought it was great! I will be including it in the bulletins to be sure our members get them. I am preaching on baptism and want to be able to refer to it in the sermon. Thanks. From Indiana: I urge you to continue to speak the truth as most of us know it to be. I am personally convinced that there is only one "truth" when it comes to a membership decline, and that is that hungry people go where there is food. No food, or poor quality food--no people. Do not despair of speaking the truth of the Good News, and please do not worry about the "feelings" of those to whom you speak. The truth may hurt us for a short time--but the food at the table is true food, pleasantly filling, and eternally nourishing. From Nigeria: It is well in my heart to see God’s work go on even if I cannot give, but I can go. I love to say thanks to every one of there that is working for God over there. From West Virginia: I thank God for your influence in the Church of the Brethren. I had been away from the church for about 20 years, and could not believe how liberal the leadership has become. By liberal I also mean non-biblical. I also want to thank you for sharing the BRF Witness with us; it really helps explain some of the C.O.B. beliefs. God bless you all in your ministry. From Michigan: I wanted to express my joy in finding the BRF. Knowing that there are strong evangelical churches in the denomination is a great comfort. Praise God for his faithfulness! |
