COURSE DESCRIPTIONS PREACHING
- An introduction to gathering materials, preparing a message, teaching a class, delivering a sermon, and presenting materials so they are helpful to listeners. The course is intended for preachers and anyone else who may have occasion to make an oral presentation.
STORYTELLING 2 - The 2005 course will be expanded to look at the use of storytelling within our ministries in our churches and our homes. Students will once again write and present a story in front of the class on a topic to be assigned in the first session. Both new students and those having taken the 2005 course will be welcome.
THE BOOK OF JUDGES
- A fascinating account about Biblical heroes regarding their feats and failures. Far from perfect, these men and women of old were used of God to shape and guide His people. Through this study, will will observe the positive and negative attributes of these judges; and apply lessons learned to our lives. The end result being that we heed God's warnings and cling to His principles to lead a more Godly life!
Rx FOR PAIN AND SUFFERING - This course will deal with Christian response to the human inevitability of suffering, affliction, and pain. By studying Biblical and contemporary examples, we will seek to answer the question, "How can these elements in our lives be used to promote and enhance the Kingdom of God?"
THE CASE FOR THE EXODUS - The Exodus from Egypt is one of the most hotly debated subjects in archaeological circles today. This course will examine the Scriptural and archaeological evidence. Questions like: "Where is Mount Sinai located?"..."What was the route of the Exodus?"..."Where was the Red Sea crossed?"...and others will be examined. Discussion is welcome.
ANGELS - The battle we fight is not against flesh and blood. Often in our daily battle, our focus is taken up in the enemy and the forces we face. As Elisha's servant learned (2 Kinds 6:16 NIV), "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." The focus of this study will be on angels and the role they play throughout the Bible, and our lives today.
EVANGELISM AND CHURCH GROWTH -
Christians are commanded to "go and preach the Gospel." The local church is to be the base of evangelism. This course will look at the Bible's teaching on evangelism; bringing new Christians into the local church; and proper follow-up for the newborn Christians. Practical applications will be emphasized.
STUDIES IN 1 AND 2 PETER - The goal of this class is to acquire a firm grasp of the teachings and themes of these two general epistles. Peter covers topics from salvation and suffering to spiritual deception and the return of Christ. These letters are packed with warnings and encouragements for Christian living.
WORSHIP - This class will articulate the Biblical basis of worship, and define the basic components of a service of worship. Students will be encouraged to develop and integrated worship service clearly demonstrating the theme through Scripture, sermon topic, hymn selection, and other pieces of the worship service.
