  • WHY WASH FEET

  • In the conservative Brethren congregations almost no one would think of not having feetwashing as a part of the Love Feast service. Among other things, we would say that it symbolizes our willingness to serve one another. But we should not just be satisfied to practice only the symbol and forget about the actual service which it symbolizes. We are giving a kind of urgent last call for the BVS-BRF program to begin in August 1999. Needed are some single volunteers. How about a year of "basin and towel" activities in real life?

  • WILD, WONDERFUL WEST VIRGINIA

  • That's the way a naturalist likes to think in terms of a slogan describing West Virginia. We've selected the Tear Coat congregation near Augusta, West Virginia as the location for the BRF Annual Meeting on September 11, 1999. We are not planning anything wild, but we're sure it will be a wonderful time of fellowship and inspiration. Programs and directions are available. If you have not received one, write to the York, PA, BRF address.

  • STAY HOME FOR A CHANGE

  • BRF is willing to consider almost anywhere to bring our Annual Meeting. If your congregation has an adequate facility for approximately 150-200 people, and your door is open to us, let us know, and we'll give it some careful thought. Maybe you can stay nearby home for a change and at the same time attend a BRF general meeting.
  • NEED FOR A TEACHER ASSISTANT

  • The Lewiston Area Mission School, Wales, Maine, is seeking a teacher's assistant for the 1999-2000 school year. This is a 10-month BVS position. Duties include helping students with questions; one-on-one instructing; maintaining classroom order; and aiding the teachers as needed. Qualifications include a high school diploma, a valid driver's licence, a liking for children, and an appreciation for learning and values education. Being knowledgeable in art, music, and sports is helpful. LAMS provides Christian education for Church of the Brethren families as well as for others who desire an education in an atmosphere of high moral values based on God's Word.

  • WHAT A WELCOME

  • A few people still remained standing outside the meetinghouse after the first night of revival where I had gone to preach. On the other end of the parking lot, I could hear some bits and pieces of a heated conversation going on by two brethren. They were vigorously discussing whose responsibility it was to keep the evangelist. I've always assumed that the one who lost the argument took me along home!
